Autumn in Valentine Kingdom

Every story begins somewhere. For The Eternal Prince, that beginning happens in autumn. It was not something I wanted to treat as simple background decoration. The season changes the way the beginning feels. The days are becoming shorter, the air is colder, rain arrives more often, and the world slowly loses the brightness of summer. For Alexander, that atmosphere fits the point where his own life begins to change as well.

A Colder Beginning

There is something different about travelling through a world in autumn. Roads become darker after rain. Forests change from green to gold, red and brown. Old stone looks almost black when it is wet. Warm light behind a window becomes much more noticeable when everything outside is cold. I like that contrast.

Valentine Kingdom is a world with palaces, forests, villages, old roads and places that carry their own history. Autumn gives all of those things a quieter character. It does not need to announce that something is changing. You can simply feel it.

Where Alexander’s Journey Starts

At the beginning of The Eternal Prince, Alexander does not yet understand how much his life is going to change. That is another reason autumn works for me. It is a season that sits somewhere between two worlds. Summer has ended, but winter has not arrived. The landscape is familiar, yet it is changing every day.

Alexander begins in a similar place. He is still himself. He still understands the world around him in the way he always has. But that certainty will not remain untouched. The season is already changing before he realizes that he is changing with it.

The World Feels Different in Autumn

I have always liked worlds that feel lived in rather than permanently perfect. Rain can make a road uncomfortable. Wind can make a forest feel completely different at night. A warm room can feel safer simply because the weather outside is terrible. Those small things matter to me. They make a fictional world feel physical.

Autumn—or fall, as most American readers would naturally call it—is especially good for that because the season constantly creates contrasts. Warmth and cold. Light and darkness. Beauty and decay. Comfort and uncertainty. Those contrasts fit Valentine Kingdom naturally.

Not Everything Beautiful Has to Be Bright

Spring and summer are usually easier seasons to describe as beautiful. Autumn is beautiful in a different way. Leaves fall. Plants disappear. Storms become more common. Days become shorter. And yet entire forests can become more beautiful precisely because they are changing.

I think there is something important in that. Change does not always arrive looking hopeful. Sometimes it looks like something is ending. Only later do you understand that something else was beginning.

The First Season of Valentine Kingdom

As the world of Valentine Kingdom grows, readers will eventually see it under many different conditions. There will be brighter moments, darker ones, different places and different seasons. But autumn will always have a special place in the beginning for me.

It is where the first journey starts. Where the roads become colder. Where the world begins to feel less familiar. And where Alexander takes his first steps toward something much larger than the life he knew before.
